All the monitorings have been carried out by the radial simmetry passive sampler radiello. The sampler, devised by the co-ordinator of the project, works by the spontaneous transfer of gaseous molecules through a diffusive barrier.
It is composed of a microporous cylindrical diffusive body and an adsorbing cartridge, cylindrical also, placed inside the diffusive body and coaxial with it. Once assembled (the whole weighs about 10 grams), radiello is exposed and just the day and time of the exposure beginning and end are needed to know.

measurement device

The overall reliability of the sampling device has been tested by the European Reference Laboratory for Air Pollution (ERLAP) of the Joint Research Centre of Ispra, both before the beginning of the experimental part of the project and during its accomplishment. The results have been judged excellent, since measurements carried out by six different European laboratories have shown an overall relative uncertainty lower than that offered by the best field instrumentation presently available.
